Point of Dreams

with Lisa A. Barnett

2002 Lammy Winner!

A fantasy of flowers, theater, and the Alphabet of Desire

For Nicholas Rathe, newly-assigned Adjunct Point - the equivalent of a senior police officer - in Astreiant's theatre district, Point of Dreams, the reappearance of a so-called magical practicum, the Alphabet of Desire, is just one more folly among dozens. He is more concerned with the folly that has led his friend, former soldier and bodyguard Philip Eslingen, to find employment with the Masters of Defense, the guild of swordsmen responsible for the fight scenes of the hugely popular, and royally attended, Midwinter Masque. But when people connected with the Masque begin to die - and the Masque's political dimensions become painfully apparent - Rathe can only hope that one of them will find the right answer before the theater's rough magic is turned against him - or Eslingen.
