This is exactly what it says it is: a class in the process of revising a completed manuscript.
I will take two weeks to read and comment on your mansucript, and then together we will decide on the focus of the three-week revision period. In those three weeks, you'll begin to work on the most pressing problems facing your manuscript and will end the class with a solid understanding of the kind of editorial work that writers must face. Whether or not you choose to revise the full manuscript according to these notes is ultimately up to you; however, you should leave the class with a good grasp of the kinds of questions you need to ask yourself as you review your first (or fifth) drafts.
What this isn't: I can't promise that this class will make your manuscript publishable. My comments will not be a copy edit - ie., I won't correct spelling and/or grammar line by line, nor do I undertake to catch all errors of fact or flaws in consistency.
What I will do is give your manuscript a thorough critical reading, and provide you with my notes throughout. Then we'll talk about any flaws, small or large, decide which aspects you want to concentrate on, and spend some time discussing draft revisions.
Enrollment is extremely limited. A writing sample is required, and students' manuscripts must be completed before the start of class.
The 2006 class will take place in July and August. Please email for dates and pricing.
